How Connecting Hearts Started
By Sue Henderson:
"It has always been my desire to start a home care business. When my youngest daughter graduated from high school, my husband and I realized with our family raised, it was time to start my “long time dream”.
For 2 years I continued working as a floor nurse and putting a business plan together. One thing I did not have was a business name. I wanted the business name to mean something to me and all the clients I would assist.
I have a friend who lived in Sedona, Arizona. She called and invited me to spend a week with her, hiking. I also, had an uncle living in Phoenix that I had never met. This was my opportunity to hike and meet my Uncle for the first time.
So, plans were made and I flew to Arizona. On my last day in Sedona, we spent it hiking. As I hiked up this mountain, I saw a beautiful red rock in the shape of a heart. I picked it up and put it in my backpack, knowing I was going to give this to my Uncle.
The next day my girlfriend drove me to Phoenix to my Uncles home. Soon as he answered the front door we connected as if we knew each other all our life. I gave the heart shaped rock to him and his wife. That evening we were sitting out on their gazebo and I went to take a picture of them when Uncle Fred jumped up and said “I need to get the rock you gave me”. So, with them cuddled close and the rock in his hand I took the picture. I said “Look Uncle Fred we are connecting hearts”. Instantly I knew my business name!
After 3 wonderful days with my Uncle, I flew home and launched Connecting Hearts Home Care in 2004. Six years has passed since I opened my doors. I have assisted many clients and families in my community. My business name has enriched my life many times over!”
